Now that we’ve had a look at how the Harbinger box is put together, we need to have a closer look at the books, cards, and other bits and pieces you’ll need to play a game of Age of Sigmar using the new Starter Set. If this doesn’t interest you, and you know you’re only in it for the models, you’ll want to skip ahead and dive on in to the sections below where FauxHammer gets into the miniatures. I’d still never take that deal over the Vanguard box or the Stormcast half of the Soul Wars starter. The ability to re-roll charges for nearby units will be handy, as you’re more likely to be rolling to charge in earlier Battle Rounds with the new board size. The Pennant of the Stormbringer is also a great way to help reposition your slower-moving units, like Retributors, to secure your victory. Decide on a color scheme that’s flexible and will work across the range(s). Nailing this is important for any army, but with a range so diverse, you will want to make sure your chosen scheme looks good on everybody, or is mutable enough that you can tie them together with spot colors. Quartered red and white might look great on your Freeguild Handgunners, but kind of silly on your Sisters of the Thorn. However, if they’re all in earthy tones with red armor, white fur on their mounts, and similar basing, they will look unified together.

There aren’t any objective markers – or even things you could use as objective markers – provided in the Warrior starter set. Also, given my aversion to painting scenery, and the fact my copy of Cursed City remains untouched, I discovered I don’t actually have anything I could use as an objective marker, either! I am going to run you through a few options to get started in the faction and give you a solid base for a competitive army. SCE start collecting boxes are out of print now, they were the SCE half of the starter kits in 1st and then 2nd edition. But they are one half of the current AoS Starter sets and we will be looking at a list built from the Extremis or Harbinger Starter Sets. These lists are intended to be competitive but might not quite reach the top table. I won’t be featuring Vanguard Raptors, Fulminators or Storm Drakes. Or not yet (read to the end). An incredibly detailed pair of models. but there are no customisation options available here. Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Harbinger Starter Set – Sprue G – Praetors Again, needing a value of 8, the odds were against them, and with a roll of 7 they could not charge.

Chaos Space Marines Vengeance Warband

Even with the finely detailed parts on this model, you shouldn’t have any issue cuting this from the sprue. Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Harbinger Starter Set – Sprue F – Swampcalla Shaman with Pot-grot

So, the option here is to build model C as either. Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Harbinger Starter Set – Sprue H – Hobgrot Slittaz Being a relatively recent formal addition to the game, the men and women of the Free Cities haven’t gotten a whole ton of rules support. The Battletome The Chaos Knights updated sprue allows them a command group with the musician that really helps their charge rolls. They have only one weapon profile now (except the unit champion that has 3), but they are extremely damaging especially on a charge. The Fyreslayers Vanguard box replaces the pre-existing Start Collecting set with the big loss of the Magmadroth, now available separately. The value of this new box is arguable, but as it’s the only place where to start a Fyreslayers army with a discount, therefore still maintaining some value. This is a good starting place for a Beasts of Chaos army. It contains a hero you will need (the Great Bray-shaman), 2 battleline options and 2 conditional battleline. The only regret is that the hero is not the brand-new Beastlord, but otherwise it’s a great set.Another key aspect of the Stormcast Eternals is their selection of mighty Heroes capable of inspiring nearby units with powerful buffing abilities – and they’re no slouches in combat either. The real reason w However, the value of each one can greatly vary from box to box; hence this article will try to explain which represent a good value and which are a hard pass.

Performing the summoning spell took its toll on the warrior mystics, but the souls successfully arrived in the Celestial Realm. Over time, they were forged with new bodies worthy of their spirits’ ideology. Sigmar was pleased with Catheryte Primalon and formed a new Stormhost, naming them the Primal Kings in honour of the former lives of his new warriors as well as Catheryte’s ingenuity. You get five Vindictors in the Warrior set, but each model can be assembled in one of two ways. Here’s the picture from our Dominion review, which shows each Vindictor partnered up with their variant build. The Vanguard box replaced the recent Start Collecting box, adding the long awaited updated sprues that allows to change weapon options and add the command group with standard bearer and musician. The Chaos Chariot is an interesting piece that can be assembled alternatively as a Gorebeast Chariot. Both have some abilities that allow to distinguish them. Each can be taken as a unit of 1 or as a unit of 3, with the Chaos Chariot counting as battleline. The Lord-Imperatant is easily one of the most impressive amongst the new line of Stormcast Eternals figures. He’s covered with awesome details – including a shoulder-cape that appears to be a relative of his partially-canine companion. Our second in command, he brings significant combat prowess (and a friendly gryph hound) but mostly he’s here for his Lantern. The daemons, always useful to summon in case you don’t want to use them from the beginning, are a unit of Flamers and one of Screamers. Flamers have been the undiscussed protagonists of Tzeentch armies for a while now. Our list is not an alpha strike monster, instead it allows you to control the board and make your opponent play to your strengths. There are 3 key feature that make the list harder to deal with and you need to keep in mind. Flexibility. If you want to make a gunline army, there’s no army better. If you want a heavy cavalry force, you can make it. If you want a horde of expendable yahoos, they’re yours. Wizard cavalry, flying war machines, giant monsters, you name it – there’s a build for just about any player here, and an associated City of Sigmar to reinforce that theme.

The Lord Celestant on foot is generally the default lord for the Stormcast Eternals and is your cheapest option, giving you a decent fighter to fill out the lord slot in your army. The Dracothian Guard – Basically what would happen if you took an immortal god warrior and put them on top of a giant half dragon monster. The Dracothian Guard box can make all 4 variants unit or used to make custom mounted lords. These are really strong units but you pay for it in points (and they’re not cheap, either). Through laughter and carbonated tears, he informed me that Stormcast Eternals were, without doubt, the most boring faction to build and paint ever created by Games Workshop. “They’re all just so dull!” he said, before telling me to stop wasting my time and to get something interesting and fun like Kharadon Overlords or, better yet, scrap Age of Sigmar altogether and buy some 40K stuff instead. When I told a Seraphon-collecting friend of mine I was planning on getting some of the God-King’s finest, he simply looked at me like I was an idiot. Miniatures: 1 Mighty Lord of Khorne, 1 Bloodsecrator, 1 Bloodstoker, 1 Khorgorath, 5 Blood Warriors, 10 Bloodreavers. Every Stormcast Eternal unit charged: the Lord-Imperatant leading the way into the Shaman, the Praetors piling into the Hobgrots, and the Vindictors into the Gutrippaz.Miniatures: 1 Spoilpox Scrivener, 2 Pusgoyle Blightlords/ Lord of Afflictions, 5 Putrid Blightkings, 10 Plaguebearers of Nurgle If you like the idea of elite units with great base stats, powerful heroes that grant helpful boons, and a wide variety of units to choose from, the Stormcast Eternals are for you. They’re versatile, tough, hard-hitting, and can be tailored to your play style in a number of different ways. The box, like the other Starter Sets, contains two Reference Sheets. These take the core-most concepts and most vital workings of a game of Age of Sigmar and strip them down further still so you can have them at your elbow during a game. Allies. In addition to having access to allies like anyone else, 1 in every 4 units in your army can be Stormcast Eternals. Furthermore, specific cities can do the same with Sylvaneth and Kharadron Overlords. This is an ideal jumping off point from owners of those armies, people looking to start those a new army without buying in too much, or those looking to further diversify the already huge number of potential units in a Cities of Sigmar army.
