About this deal

Marine varnish is also known as spar varnish. This is specifically formulated for marine exposure and generally contains phenolic and alkyd resin, as well as Tung oil for its components. It is known for being a very outstanding wood finishing varnish that was primitively developed for coating the sailing ship’s pole of wood. You can apply varnish over the teak oil finish only if it’s wholly curated. There’s a difference between dry and cured. Teak wood oil takes up to 6 hours to dry. This is when a soft film-like texture can be seen on top of the wood.

Always wipe off any stain that the wood does not absorb with a clean, dry cloth. Also, ensure that you consider a rag that you won’t mind disposing of afterward as the stain will be difficult to wash. Please ensure that you wipe off immediately you get the desired color as the excess stain darkness the longer it stays on the surface.Once the teak is sanded down, use a soft brush to clear off any debris and dust before applying the first coat of varnish. Oil-based polyurethane yacht varnish is the recommended type for outdoor teak, as it sets firm and gives a completely waterproof and weatherproof coating which will last for many a long year. Use a soft bristle brush to apply the varnish, always stroking with the grain of the wood.

As this test has shown, when it comes to long-lasting protection and gloss, two-part varnishes just can’t be beat. They may be a pain to apply-and should you let the coating fail, you had better invest in a heat gun-but their durability is unmatched. There is another route you could take and that is to again sand the teak and remove as much of the old coating as possible and apply two to three coats of International Woodskin. Needless to say, marine varnish products these days come in not-so-affordable costs, reason why it is critical to select the one that surely lasts so you don’t end up spending more in the end. But, the real question here is, “which marine varnish is right for your vessel’s needs?” Handheld orbital sanders can be used for sanding large areas. However, using an orbital sander to smooth the rough grain may be aggressive for the teakwood, eventually ruining the surface.Natural wood exposed to direct sun will help you obtain that grayish look you desire. The teak surface dries and turns gray because of overexposure to the sun. Just leave your fresh and non-oiled teak furniture outdoors for a few hours and admire the beautiful weathered look it gives. What Happens If You Bleach Teak Wood? For the money, this is surely a worthwhile investment because it is not that overpriced and it also comes with a longer shelf-life and is quite easy to use. But, do keep in mind that it is necessary to apply more coats first before you observe some visible outcomes and you better not expect more from the manufacturer’s customer service support. 4. TotalBoat Lust Marine Varnish If your teak wood is weathered, you can restore it and give it a fresher look with the help of wood paint or stain.
