About this deal

Weathering was achieved with AK Interactive Moss Deposits, which is an enamel paint with some suspended grit texture in it. This was my first time using enamels so I can’t offer much useful tips on using them, but I found their ability to be remobilised with white spirit to be really interesting and something I will work with in the future. I brushed this inside crevasses in the armour and in streaks on the exposed surfaces, trying to mimic the shape of moss from dripping water. I also used a light drybrush of VMC Smoke as a brown to add a bit of dirt texture to some spots. This rendition of the Monolith is a nightmarish floating sentinel that truly embodies the alien horror of the Necrons. Look closely, and you’ll see the depth and detail this kit possesses, featuring weathered stone and unfathomable technology, a vast wealth of internal sculpting that brings the monolith to life, and the iconic image of a Necron warrior emerging from the Portal of Exile.” When combined with the vehicle's slab-sided armour plates, this makes the Monolith one of the hardiest vehicles in the Necron's arsenal, and an incredibly daunting opponent for any enemy. Nothing is more emblematic of Necron implacability than the Monolith. Like all Necron constructs, it is composed of the living metal necrodermis: a complex semi-sentient alloy that ripples and flows and adapts its structure to repair damage in the blink of an eye. Beanith: Next you’ll be telling me all the cool kids are doing it. Fiiiiiiine, I’ll grow as an artist and challenge myself with new techniques, yadda yadda yadda.

The Necrons are the Warhammer 40k Xenos equivalent of the Undead in many fantasy settings. Taking inspiration from both the Terminator movies and the Egyptian dynasties of old, these immortal cybernetic beings rise up from long-buried tombs, marching into battle with arcane technologies beyond the ken of mortal men. If that doesn’t sound quite right for you, we have a whole list of other Warhammer 40k factions for you to consider. I’ve done this a few different ways now and I think starting with Wraithbone is probably the right call, and I’m getting to where it doesn’t take hours to do, which helps a lot. I use a relatively lightly coloured base to help have the dark necron pop out against it, be careful when doing stuff like that though as it is easy to have it overpower the model you are trying to showcase! This Eternity Gate links the Monolith to the vessels and Tomb Worlds of its Necron Dynasty -- allowing reinforcements to appear at the Monolith's location almost instantaneously.More Wounds– It could use a handful of more wounds to bring it closer to Knights. The Monolith has always been a large model, so I can see it going up to W24. Firepower Can only set up within Engagement Range of enemy units that are already within Engagement Range of the Reanimated model's unit. Next, zenithally airbrush on Citadel Zandri Dust at about a 60 degree angle. You’re looking to keep the Rhinox Hide in the underside and crevices of the model.

I like this guy a lot, but my Necron army never got past the stage of being “fledgling” and was mostly painted two years ago, and I think now i would do them differently. The body is just Army Painter silver spray washed Nuln Oil, the carapace is Naggaroth Night then Xereus Purple highlighted with Genestealer Pink, and the green is Warpstone Glow -> Moot Green. The gold is just Retributor Gold washed Seraphim Sepia, and the brassy bits are Runelord Brass which I think was also washed Sepia.I didn't measure them but they are roughly 15-16cm high according to my memory. and maybe 9-12 cm wide and long. Polished Gold layer and Reikland wash + Silver highlight Szarekhan Royal Warden Szarekhan Royal Warden Nihilakh
